Yes, I fully agree with the logic of what you say.
No, most believers will NOT try to atone scientific facts and declared Beliefs.
I see two reasons for that :
A — Belonging to a community is important for our species. And one will erase/ignore known facts in order to be seen as belonging to the flock.
B — Most Believers did not really read their Holly Book. What they know of it are the same standard ‘’extracts’’ which are delivered regularly by the ‘’professional intermediaries’’ between God and humans.
