We talk about Zionism, but WHAT IS ZIONISM ? Everybody has his own definition. Some definitions are fine. Others are not.

Should we discuss the concept of Zionism on Political or Religious grounds ? Does International Law & Human Rights should apply ? Or not ? What is the main purpose of Zionism ? A Religious State or a Democracy ? With which borders ? Israel 1947 UN borders ? Israel pre-1967 ? Gen. 18:8 ? Gen. 15:18–21 ?

Here is my definition of Zionism (I consider it on Political Grounds — International Law & Human Rights apply — and I see it as a Democracy)

“Zionism is the spirit of the Political Project developped by Theodor HERZL (‘’Der Judenstaat’’), project which has been clarified, complemented and then validated by the International Community (in 1947), and which was subsequently implemented by the successive governments of Israel in compliance with International Law, Human Rights, and International Conventions.”

This definition is consistent with the 1947 UN resolution which created the State of Israel and the Arab State. It is also in line with the Declaration of Independance of Israel 1948 : no discriminations of any kind between israeli citizens.

Of course, the Zionist process actually contravenes with my definition. Also, the israeli Nation Bill puts Jewish character above human rights: Israel cannot be a democracy with these discriminatory rules (which were already in application for years, despite the Supreme Court decisions…)

As a consequence, I consider legitimate the “Criticism of rhetoric or actions of individuals/ structures which intervene (directly or not) and which contravene (or incite to contravene) to the letter or spirit of the above definition of Zionism.”
