Good morning,
Can Countries with different Values work together ?
Yes, of course they can. It is somehow the Westphalian system of non-interference in each other’s internal affairs.
A good example is our ally & friend Israel, who regularly ignore UN resolutions and where the Justice Minister claims that “Zionism should not continue, and I say here, it will not continue to bow down to the system of individual rights interpreted in a universal way that divorces them from the history of the Knesset and the history of legislation that we all know,”(Haaretz du 29 août 2017) « The nation-state bill in its current form enables de-facto geographic separation between Arabs and Jews; Israel’s deputy state attorney has already warned it is a ‘blatant discrimination against human beings’ » ( Haaretz Editorial — March 15, 2018) « The legislation is designed to lay the groundwork for the High Court of Justice to give preference to Israel’s Jewish character over its democratic values should the two conflict in the courts. (…) Arab parties said that « the legislation is ‘’institutionalizing the apartheid regime’’ » (…) Opposition MKs objected to the deletion of text referring to democracy and the Declaration of Independence. » (Haaretz — 13 march 2018.)
Other good examples are Saudi Arabia and Iran. There are many others.
Should Coutries with different Values join a ‘’Club’’ where these Values are central to the Club ?
No, certainly not !
The Club should be in charge of managing everything around these Values, on behalf of its Club members. If a Country democratically decides not to adhere anymore to the Club Values, it leaves the Club.
Maybe we need to get a few countries to somehow ‘’merge’’ into a kind of Confederation where there are issues which will be managed by the Conferedation (transfers) and others which will remain local. This would help to decentralize powers to strong ‘’Regions’’ (Alsace, Catalunya, etc..)
