More than four months have passed since the publication of Laurent Guyénot’s From Yahweh to Zion. It is, to quote his eloquent translator, Dr. Kevin Barrett, “a magisterial book by an uncommonly erudite historian, and deserves the widest possible readership.” Yet to this date, no notable review beyond a blurb has appeared, summoning such readership.
Guyénot possesses impressive academic credentials: a BSc. in Engineering, an M.A. in Biblical Studies, and a PhD. in Medieval History. Lacking commensurate qualifications, I submit these words not so much as a book review, but as a book response — “How It Strikes a Contemporary,” rather than “Report to the Academy.” May it not be very much longer before the work of Dr. Guyénot receives the attention it deserves from his professional colleagues. Even without their approbation, keen intellects will savour Guyénot’s original reflections on the theories of Darwin, Marx, and Freud, and especially his chosen field of biblical hermeneutics.
Caveat: This book is not for the theologically faint-of-heart. Guyénot takes a decidedly secular approach with regard to the Hebrew Scriptures and the background in which they were written. With due respect for the text, he treats the Old Testament as an all-too-human document, composed by a priestly elite who projected their own warped psychology and nationalistic ends onto God. Guyenot’s abiding bête noiris the Almighty Himself, (aka “Yahweh”), who is cast as a petty, capricious, tyrannical tribal god, who’s as much a scourge to his worshippers as to his innumerable enemies. You wouldn’t want him for a father.
Yahweh is best known for being a mascot for the tribe of Judah, whose members consider themselves divinely favoured, especially with regard to owning a certain piece of real estate known as the land of Canaan. Guyénot rejects the platitude intoned by Judaics that “God gave us the land,” stating that “in order to dominate the local population, they developed a version of history presenting themselves as legitimate heirs of an ancient tradition.” It’s a strange creed indeed which posits 1% of humanity “chosen,” the other 99% chopped liver. Even Zionism, which doesn’t claim to base itself on religion, presupposes an exclusively Jewish state, whose current government has proven to be as racist as it is supremacist.
As the cruel oppression and injustice mount up in occupied Palestine, a critique of Zionism seems as needless now as an exposé of Nazism. Those who are appalled at what Israel has become in its treatment of Palestinians and implacable hostility towards its geographical neighbours cannot help but behold a bizarre, hateful mindset, which can be traced to diatribes delivered by Yahweh. Guyénot observes, “Writing the history of Israel always means reproducing biblical history” — or redressing biblical history with tragic results. Thus Palestinians are not perceived as the wrongfully displaced indigenous people of the land, but as interloping Philistines, who must be sent packing. Note these words recorded in his diary by Israel’s first Prime Minister, David Ben-Gurion, within days of declaring a state in 1948:
We will break Transjordan [Jordan], bomb Amman and destroy its army, and then Syria falls, and if Egypt will still continue to fight — we will bomb Port Said, Alexandria and Cairo,” then he adds: “This will be in revenge for what they (the Egyptians, the Aramis and Assyrians) did to our forefathers during biblical times.”
For some people, there’s no end to revenge. The righteous wrath meted out to goyim in recent wars has become the default response to anyone who criticizes the government of Israel for any violation, no mater how egregious, of international law. Decrying the inhuman 11-year blockade of Gaza, or the latest atrocity at the border fence, is just so much “hate speech” to them. It is feared that given the “right” circumstances, they will do even worse to Gaza.
Guyénot’s book catches fire when he turns from religious and historical revisionism to critical events in our own time, particularly those involving the United States. In a chapter titled “Invisible Coup” Guyénot examines the Kennedy assassinations and makes a convincing case for Israeli culpability in both instances.
Prime Minister Ben-Gurion had reasons for wanting JFK removed from office, one way or another. Kennedy supported the Palestinian “right of return;” he wanted the predecessor of AIPAC registered as an agent of a foreign power. Finally and most unforgivably, Kennedy wanted Israel’s nuclear program shut down, and he threatened to cut off American support if it did not do so pronto.
We all know what happened next. While it is not at all certain that Lee Harvey Oswald shot John Kennedy, there’s no doubt as to who shot Lee Harvey Oswald at point-blank range. The following is an example of Guyénot’s incisive investigation:
…Oswald was being transferred from the Dallas Police station (where he had been interrogated for two days while no one made a recording or took notes) to the Dallas County jail. Oswald’s assassin is known as Jack Ruby, but few people know that his real name was Jacob Leon Rubenstein, that he was the son of Jewish Polish immigrants, and that, asked by the Warren Commission how he had been allowed into the Police Station, he claimed that he had been translating for Israeli reporters.
Sound fishy? Another motive for hastening Kennedy’s departure was to replace him with VP, Lyndon Johnson, a committed Zionist who turns out to be of Jewish ancestry. Guyénot’s conclusion is: “The assassination of President Kennedy was a hidden coup d’état meant to replace an independent government with a government subservient to Israel’s interests. From the very next day, all of Kennedy’s policies hostile to Israel’s agenda were reversed, without the American people having the slightest idea of what was going on.”
Johnson’s collusion was most damningly demonstrated with the infamous attack by Israeli forces on an American spy ship during the Six-Day War of 1967. Despite being bombed, napalmed, and strafed for more than an hour, the USS Liberty managed miraculously to escape being sent to the bottom of the sea — so that Egypt could be blamed for the attack. Notwithstanding the giant American flag it was flying the whole while, the official story still stands that it was simply a case of mistaken identity. Doubtless you, dear reader, know all about this outrageous slaughter which could have provoked World War III, but ask yourself: how many of your peers know anything about this shocking event? Then ask yourself why.
The death of Robert Kennedy one year later is perhaps the most troubling item of inquiry because it is thought to involve the unhallowed use of mind control on Sirhan Sirhan, who was indubitably present even if he didn’t fire the fatal bullet. Thanks to half a century of media repetition, the one thing most people will remember about Kennedy’s alleged killer is that he is Palestinian. Just who might have a vested interest in a Palestinian taking the blame for extinguishing America’s great white hope? We know this President-in-waiting did not privately accept the findings of the Warren Commission and he was determined to reopen the investigation of his brother’s murder. “This certainly did not escape John’s murderers. They had no other way to stop [Robert] than by killing him.” For such peerless and fearless sleuthing into these assassinations, Guyénot deserves to be called a public detective.
If “Invisible Coup” is a tour de force of forensic analysis, Guyénot’s next chapter, “Vicious Cabal” is a coup de grace for 9/11 Studies. Guyénot dares to go where few intrepid researchers have gone before, postulating Israel’s primary role in the worst mass murder to happen on American soil. This chapter alone is worth the price of admission. It starts innocently enough in the 1990’s, with a group of Jewish intellectuals, self-described “neo-conservatives” wishing out loud in policy papers that America would do more for its best little friend in the Middle East — a war on Iraq, say. Guyénot then reveals Zionist footprints all over the dust of the demolished World Trade Center.
When one is fully apprised of the facts of this case, how obvious it appears in retrospect. Questions could have been asked that simply weren’t. What were a bunch of Israeli art students — known as the Gelatin Group — doing outside the 91st floor of the North Tower, the very site later of a spectacular televised fireball? What were another group of Mossad agents doing on top of a parked van that morning, in full view, dressed as Palestinians and celebrating wildly as the towers came down? How is it that jubilant Palestinians were shown on TV in real time when it was actually stock footage? Who might actually have sent the letters laden with anthrax one week later, to prominent US legislators and news anchors, wishing death to America, death to Israel, and certainly their recipients? To raise these questions, as Guyénot says, is to answer them. Funny how those anthrax spores did not come from a mobile lab in Iraq, as was originally claimed, but from a bio-weapons facility in America. Funnier still is how we never found out who really sent that piece of hate mail…
Let us briefly consider the man who leased the WTC just months before its demolition, hired new security, and doubled the insurance. Here’s Guyénot’s profile of Larry Silverstein:
A leading member of the United Jewish Appeal Federation of Jewish Philanthropies of New York, the biggest fundraiser for Israel (after the US government, which pays about $3 billion a year in aid to Israel), Silverstein “also maintained close ties with Netanyahu,” according to Haaretz (November 21, 2001). “The two have been on friendly terms since Netanyahu’s stint as Israel’s ambassador to the United Nations. For years they kept in close touch. Every Sunday afternoon, New York time, Netanyahu would call Silverstein.”
Would anyone wager that Netanyahu was not calling his old chum to ask how the Knicks were doing? It will come as no surprise by now that “Lucky Larry,” 9/11’s chief beneficiary, was never called before the 9/11 Commission to answer any questions. Questions are for goyim. Another disappointing no-show was Benjamin Netanyahu, the very man who coined the phrase “War on Terror” and who just happened to be in New York that day — and in London (7/7) the day of its carnage. Anyone else see a pattern?
Let us not forget, finally, the man behind the men who purportedly set forth the Authorized Conspiracy Theory (better known as The 9/11 Commission Report), Philip Zelikow. While it is no longer necessary to mention that Zelikow is an ardent Zionist, did you know that (according to Wikipedia) Zelikow is a self-proclaimed specialist in terrorism and the creation of “public myths” by “searing” or “molding” events [that] take on “transcendent” importance and, therefore, retain their power “even as the experiencing generation passes from the scene”?
Maybe it is in Providence that this generation has not quite passed, and that the wizened perpetrators of 9/11 are still alive and at large. Think of it: They could strike again. Even more than before, they have means, motive, and opportunity. Guyénot summarizes, “To trigger a war of civilization against the Middle East, there needed to be something visually dramatic and traumatic, like the explosion of the Twin Towers and several thousand deaths.” Since then, the Middle East has seen tens of millions of deaths at the hands of the “coalition of the willing,” with no respite in sight for the Greater Israel Project. Yahwehism, as characterized by Guyénot, is still going strong.
And yet, and yet — true believers will not be slow to descry a flaw in the Zionist master plan. How is it possible to pull off a crime like 9/11 and evade the consequences behind the Big 10? I’m referring to the Ten Commandments, written, it should be noted, by the finger of Yahweh. Anyone who goes against that is asking for serious trouble. Imagine what must it be like to be them, knowing full well what they have done, even if the rest of the world remains ignorant.
It doesn’t take a prophet to know that any nation or people which acts in defiance of G-d’s own covenant is not long for this world. Nor is Guyénot optimistic about this country’s future: “Israel seems destined to be directed by the most extremist, openly racist, paranoid, and Machiavellian elements — the most lacking in all inhibitions normally imposed by empathy and respect for other peoples.” According to the criteria usually applied to individuals, Guyénot does indeed diagnose Israel as a “sociopathic state.”
And now for the really bad news. Thanks to AIPAC and its three hundred subsidiaries, Israel has become full partners with the most powerful nation on earth in plotting military and foreign policy. (Witness the ascension of neo-con uber-hawk, John Bolton, to the position of National Security Advisor.) Guyénot’s memorable metaphor: “The relationship between Israel and the United States is akin to the bond between a typical psychopath and the impressionable bully he has decided to manipulate.” It isn’t hard to call the shots when you have controlling shares in 3M — money, media, and murder. Suffice it to say, G-d is not in this mix.
That is why, according to Kevin Barrett (who deserves an award for his mellifluous translation), “This book is timely, of such relevance as can hardly be overstated.” Notwithstanding the repeated blows delivered over the years to the United States, Israel is set to — adopting the slogan from the latest AIPAC love-in — “choose to lead.” Where will it choose to lead America next? In short order the current administration has moved the American embassy to Jerusalem and torn up the JCPOA nuclear agreement. Sober analysts now wonder whether a war on Iran — or even Russia — is in the works. Perhaps the most disconcerting feature of true-blue psychopaths is that they are oblivious to consequences. They will nuke first and ask questions later.
No glib recounting such as this can do justice to the breadth and depth of Laurent Guyénot’s overall thesis. Many books went into the making of this one; and no point, however contentious, goes without a footnote in substantiation. There are half a dozen references alone to The Founding Fathers of Zionism (1938), by the historian Benzion Netanyahu. Won’t his son be pleased!
Having touched on such disciplines as religion, history, and psychology, let us end on a more homely analogy from popular culture, Lord of the Rings. The Middle East is Middle Earth, and Israel is Mordor. Benjamin Nine-Eleven is the latest Dark Lord casting a covetous, baleful eye upon the land. With a history of false-flag attacks longer than the corruption charges now being served against him, he is definitely one to be watched. This guy did 9/11! Yet if there is such a thing as Peak Evil, maybe the only one who can bring down the Dark Lord is Netanyahu himself. Problem is, Sauron would likely to take down all of Middle Earth with him, not just Mordor.
The Israelis have a phrase for it, “The Samson Option,” elucidated (what isn’t?) by Laurent Guyénot in his scholarly opus. Let us hope this brilliant and learned man doesn’t prove to be the last unwitting prophet of Yahweh.
